Open letter from our coalition to Mayor de Blasio, delivered today:
Dear Mayor de Blasio,
On September 25th, about 1,000 concerned community members from the Lower East Side and Chinatown marched from the community to City Hall, and delivered to you a letter requesting adoption of the community rezoning plan, also known as the Chinatown Working Group rezoning plan. After our community was excluded from the 2008 East Village rezoning, we spent 7 years working to craft a rezoning plan to protect the entire community.
Without even meeting with the groups that created the plan, the Department of City Planning rejected it. This kind of treatment is discriminatory. We should have equal protection. We need you to meet with us. To this day, you have not responded to our letter.
We will be arriving at City Hall on October 28, from between 4:30pm and 5pm. We urge you to come out and meet with us at this time.
Sincerely,
The Coalition to Protect Chinatown and the Lower East Side
