Picket @ City Hall

The “Mayor of Two Cities” is Destroying New York City!

Urge Him to Step Down!

  • Every Monday 3:30-6:30pm – In front of City Hall on Park Row (across from Brooklyn Bridge)
  • Every Wednesday and Friday 10:00am-1:00pm – In front of City Hall on Broadway (at Murray St)

Mayor de Blasio promised to end the “Tale of Two Cities” but since he took office, displacement around the city has only become more rampant. Developers continue to build hotels and luxury condos in low-income communities like Chinatown and Lower East Side, driving up rents and real estate taxes. Stores are closing, jobs are lost, and tenants and small businesses find the rents more and more unaffordable. As a result, communities are quickly being destroyed. Community groups formed Chinatown Working Group and spent 8 years coming up with a “People First” rezoning plan that will limit building heights and require 100% low-income housing on public land, in order to have the same protection as East Village, a majority white community. But Mayor de Blasio dismissed the plan as “too ambitious,” and continues to ignore the communities even after marches and demonstrations. Why does he say one thing but do the opposite?

  • Recent Federal Investigation has exposed his true face as the “Mayor of Two Cities”: he made empty progressive promises on the surface, yet under the table he did corrupt dealings with the developers.
  • He is selling nursing homes, public housing and libraries to real estate groups with ties to his administration on one hand, and giving public subsidies to developers on the other hand.
  • He has sugarcoated his pro-developer rezoning plan as “affordable housing” and passed the plan despite strong opposition from communities across the city. In reality, it is not affordable at all for the majority of middle- and low-income families!

Mayor de Blasio is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He is even greedier and closer to developers than former Mayor Bloomberg. He has refused to listen to the people, and let the wave of displacement destroy more families and communities, making NYC the playground of 1%. He is unfit to be Mayor.
